Synthetic Garden

She lay in the sea at night,

naked from head to toe.

The waves crashed against her voluptuous body, salty cold water surrounded her.

She cackled with shock and excitement. Thrashing her limbs around playfully.

She was in a state of mania. Unaware of how deep she was getting, the tide brought her closer and closer to an unmanageable depth.

She closed her eyes as her body slowed down trying to keep herself afloat.

She was consumed and swallowed by a thrill of sinking deep and giving in to the ocean.

Behind her vision she saw a divine light, so peaceful and alluring.

She wanted to follow it. As her inner being began to shut down. She was walking toward a grand calm. It was delicious and she wanted to join it. Like a flicker of light that shone into her being. She saw a paradise beneath herself, guiding her into to it, little bulbs in a pattern.

Closer and closer, until her vision was blinded by some external red beam. It was danger, she feared this light. It was pain.

Hands of the sea held her down. She was stuck. Her agonising breaths was all she could think about, lungs collapsing and her body was in so much pain.

This red light piercing into her flesh, grabbing hold of her and pulling her out and onto the sea shore. Coughing and spewing up the water that had suffocated her, she was surrounded by a group of people with shiny high-vis all around her, she couldn’t comprehend what was going on. She screamed in pain as they all dragged her out and onto the shards of the stony Brighton beach.

The boy who had been witnessing the whole situation looked on, he was mesmerised by the scene. It took him a moment to realise the police officer who had been asking him where he lived.

They dropped him off at the university accommodation, he remembered to take a hot shower, as he was told by the police.

….

The boy, 17 years old had moved to Brighton University, to start a course in Art Film.

He had moved far away from his family for the first time in his life. This was to be the start of his future, a new beginning.

He had settled into his room, and tried to settle into the new town. After the events that took place the night before, he disregarded what had happened and went on with his first day in class.

The college building was small and based in a building 10 minutes away from the main campus. He approached the building with feelings of nervous anticipation.

He was the first to get there, always the early bird for such things. Waiting in the waiting room, he took in the room. It was clearly an old building, but decorated to look modern, white walls and green carpet that had seen better days, the chair in which he sat had lost its body. But was good enough to wait for class to begin.

Soon the waiting area became occupied with others waiting for the same.

The tutor, who he recognised from his interview appeared and led everyone in.

Introductory ice breakers were the name of the session.

…..

The boy found it hard to initially make any connections, suffering from a shyness that consumed him. But he told himself this wouldn’t last.

He had had trouble sleeping.

In the dorms he made the effort to talk to his neighbours. They all seemed a charming bunch. One fella he really took a shine to was his closest neighbour, he rarely wore a shirt and would walk around bare foot. The fella was gorgeous, inside and out.

Mania

His euphoria grew to an unrecognisable stage, underneath his rational thoughts that the boy hardly realised what was going on.

I am attempting to write a story, loosely based on the events that occurred in 2015.

This is just a practice for what is to become more episodic and boy do I have some story to tell.

Thanks x Joss
